Overview

Dave Algebra Class is a main protagonist in Dimensional Deep End.

He travels alongside Boyfriend in the A plot as the two of them are swept into the Deep End by a mysterious portal that opens up beneath them in the prologue song Format. As the straight-man of the duo, he's much more solution oriented and is focused on finding the most efficient way back home with what little he has to work with. In the mod he will act as Boyfriend's main partner in the story as they both take turns or work together to rap-battle the waves of opponents that get in their way.

He is the adoptive father of Tristan, and a good friend to Spike, Muko, and Bambi.

Appearance

Dave is a 2D worlder with a spherical head and shoulders, donning a blue long-sleeved shirt with subtly belled sleeves and darker blue pants. His hair is brunette and shaved as a buzzcut. Dave is wheelchair bound, with the lower half of his legs being replaced with shapely metal prosthetics. These prosthetics act as 'neurotransmitters', which decipher Dave's nerve signals and transmit them to his wheelchair, allowing him to sprout multiple robotic hands from his wheelchair for different purposes.

Personality

Dave appears as well-rounded and kind to most people he meets, however he has his moments of anxiety and cockiness. He has a tendency to put the needs of others before his own, and very rarely puts the fault of a situation on anyone other than himself. He's very solution-oriented and knows how to think in times of stress, usually jumping to de-escalating the conflict in some way.

He has his moments of ego as he's surprisingly competitive, and since he has mathematics as a passion, he tends to let it get to his head when his prowess for it is validated in some way. This accidentally slips into his teaching methods, as he occasionally tries challenging his son with higher level math than he's equipped for, as seen in Tristan's worksheets.

Dave speaks in a very child-friendly manner, only letting it slip when he panics. Since he wants to be a good role model for his son, he switches out typical curse words with goofier euphemisms, like "Fudgesicles" as a substitute for a swear of the same letter.

When he slips into panic, Dave tends to spiral into thinking of worst-case scenarios, which only feed more into his anxiety.

Background

Dave was born as Dave Alan Claus around the mid-late 1980s. He later changed his name to his current when he became an adult. He was raised solely by his father since his mom passed soon after his birth. He moved from Canada to Midwestern America sometime before starting elementary school.

As a kid, Dave was already disabled by conditions such as childhood gigantism and cerebral palsy, which caused him to receive multiple surgeries to manage it, and ended up affecting his movement when he was young. As seen in older photos, he got around via modified crutches. Due to his disabilities, Dave has been distanced socially from his peers until he befriended Muko, whom he met after protecting him from bullies like David, according to Muko's log in the terminal. From there, Dave built up a small yet strong friend group that remains lasting into adulthood.

Sometime after graduating high school, Dave builds a house thanks to his animatronic friend Maldo in the town of Fort Geraldson. There, Dave and Muko pursued advanced scientific projects, with Dave working as a programmer. It's around this time Dave starts making his own personal program to store files such as his logs. Eventually, a backfire in one of their projects resulted in the loss of Dave's legs. Muko was soon to design a customized robotic wheelchair and prosthetics as a form of apology, and they've been in use ever since.

At some point, Dave and Muko's relationship becomes strained and they start spending less time with eachother. Dave abandons science work and works with Maldo to build a new Elementary school in the middle of Fort Geraldson, which was lacking in those facilities due to being in a more rural area. There, he started hiring staff like Samson and Allen, and accepted Diamond Man as a junior counselor. Muko, even with their strained relationship, still provided for Dave in this time by building SLEEP and Playrobot.

In his teaching days, Dave met a very young Spike, whose family recently moved in the area and needed a place for him to be cared for. Spike ended up being the only student in Dave's first year because of this, but it nurtured a close mentor-student relationship with the two. Dave began developing fatherly emotions while teaching Spike, and decided that his new dream would be becoming a father. He decided to step down as teacher- telling Spike he can still see him as a math tutor- and soon adopted his son Tristan.

It is also around this time where Dave meets his good friend Bambi, who suddenly appeared in the town one day. The two immediately click, and become fast friends. Bambi helps with caring for Tristan by providing a steady source of food, and along with Spike, gives Tristan someone to look up to. Dave becomes satisfied with his current way of life, and even starts leaning more into his hobby of singing. He sets up a Funkbook page one day, and is surprised to see two people become interested almost immediately.
