Overview

Boyfriend is a main protagonist in Dimensional Deep End, and originates from the rhythm game Friday Night Funkin'. This version of Boyfriend has multiple differences in upbringing, appearance, and personality than his official counterpart.

He travels alongside Dave in the A plot as the two of them are swept into the Deep End by a mysterious portal that opens up beneath them in the prologue song Format. He is the crass and brash one of the duo, jumping into situations without forethought. He communicates largely without English words, using beats and tones instead. In the mod he will act as Dave's main partner in the story as they both take turns or work together to rap-battle the waves of opponents that get in their way.

He is the boyfriend of Girlfriend, and a good friend to Pico.

Appearance

Boyfriend is a 2D world-er with a short stature, bright blue hair with cyan highlights, a boxy red cap, and white T-shirt with a red symbol. He has large, blocky red and white shoes and baggy blue pants.

Personality

Boyfriend is an energetic, reckless, and casual person who enjoys sizing people up and competing in rap battles. He's passionate about music and singing, spending most of his time doing so. He lives in the present, making impulsive decisions and thinking about the ramifications of them later. This can lead him to miss important information in the moment.

Due to the many aggressive opponents Boyfriend has faced in his rap battles, he is greatly desensitized to chaotic and risky situations. He charges through them with brash confidence, not taking them or the harm they pose to him very seriously. Every encounter with a strange or hostile being is little more than a fight to win. Very few things can genuinely scare him or stress him out; he is quite hardy and street smart, and this keeps him alive even in the most improbable situations. As long as he's by his Girlfriend's side, he can take on anything, while being separated from her distresses him.

He speaks crassly and informally, often cracking jokes or comments about himself or others. His manner of speech is unique as he communicates through beeping, visualized as arrows in dialogue.

Background

Boyfriend was born in the late 90s in Philadelphia, where he remained throughout adulthood.

Sometime in high school, he had a brief relationship with Pico, but broke up on good terms. After dropping out of college, he cut contact with his parents, who pressured him to pursue an education he didn't want. Soon after, he met Girlfriend- and the two fell in love and got into a relationship. The two have been inseparable ever since.

For much of his life, Boyfriend has traveled the world with Girlfriend facing off all sorts of opponents in rap battles, both innocuous and dangerous ones. Some have even put them in lethal danger, only to survive each time mostly unscathed. He's had hundreds of these kinds of encounters up until finding Dave through Funkbook, a person he and Girlfriend thought could take down a peg.

• His last name is the same as virtual idol Hatsune Miku's, who is his sister.
